THE SCARCITY LOOP

“Why You Can’t Stop Checking Your Bank Account (And It’s Not About Discipline)”

You’ve probably been told that checking your bank account obsessively is a bad habit. Stop the anxious scrolling, they say. Manifest abundance. Shift your mindset.

That’s spiritual culture talking. And it’s wrong.

The scarcity loop isn’t a habit. It’s a nervous system response. When your body learned — at some point in your history — that money was unstable, unpredictable, or dangerous, it wired itself to stay alert. The constant checking? That’s your system running a threat scan. It’s not weakness. It’s protection.

Here’s what nobody tells you: the pattern isn’t in your phone. It’s in your body.

You can delete your banking app. You can stop looking at your balance. But if you haven’t interrupted the underlying wiring, you’ll find another way to run the same scan. You’ll track every receipt. You’ll replay purchases in your head at 2am. You’ll feel guilty spending money you actually have.

The scarcity loop keeps you stuck not because it makes you poor — but because it makes every financial decision feel like survival. And you cannot build wealth from a survival state.

I’ve watched clients go from six-figure incomes to broke in under two years because this pattern was running the show. Not because they lacked discipline. Because they were making every money decision from a body that believed the threat was still real.

Truth over comfort: the bank account isn’t the problem. Your nervous system’s relationship to it is.

Wednesday on The Soul’s Truth Podcast™, I’m breaking down all five patterns — including what they actually look like in your daily life and what interrupts them. This is Episode 3 of The Truth About Money series, and it’s the one that changes how you see everything.
